Monster Sanctuary Wiki

Contained within this page is all of the general information you'll need to know to properly understand how to become a Monster Keeper! Here, we'll explain all of the most simple concepts of game balance and how to progress, so that you can become the Keeper Master, someday!

Moving[]

Movement in the game is very similar to any other entry in the Metroidvania category. You can run and jump, by default. Through the course of your adventure, you'll unlock more options for mobility through either Monsters' Explore Abilities or personal player character upgrades.

Battles[]

In addition to jumping around and exploring the Monster Sanctuary on foot, you will be thrust into tactical 3-on-3 battles that pit your trained Monsters against wild ones - or sometimes ones held by an enemy Keeper in what is referred to as a Keeper Duel! After each encounter with wild enemies, you will be ranked on a 5-star scale, based on how well you did. For a full breakdown of how to maximize your score, you can head over to the Battles page.

The Sanctuary is filled with all sorts of Monsters, big and small. You, as a Monster Keeper, are able to collect every one of them! Currently, there are planned to be upwards of 111 unique creatures to collect and train! They all have access to different Skills in different combinations that you should learn to take advantage of in order to succeed in your adventure! You can check out individual Monster pages to get a deeper breakdown of what skills they have available.

Upon visiting the Sun Palace later in the game, you will obtain the unique ability to shift your Monster allies to Light and Dark versions of themselves, opening up even wider strategies in the way you build your teams.

Collecting Monsters[]

As mentioned, upon defeating a group of wild monsters, you achieve a Star Rating from 1 to 5, based on how well you did. These ratings each afford you different percentage chances for obtaining what is called Rare Loot. Every Monster has a different set of Loot that they drop (listed on the individual Monster pages - or in your in-game Monster Journal, once you have obtained it once). However, when you manage to obtain a piece of Rare loot, you also have the potential to obtain an Egg of one of the Monsters you just defeated. This is determined very simply.

Upon obtaining a Rare Loot, the game will first roll to decide which Monster drops the Loot, then it will choose which one of that Monster's Loot options you obtained. In general, both of these are "Fair Rolls" - that is, you have a 1/3 chance of getting Loot from any of the three participating Monsters, and a further 1/3 chance of getting any of their Rare Loots (one of the two Rare drops or an Egg). However, if you have never received the Egg of one of the Monsters in the party you just defeated, the rolls get "weighted" in that Monster's favor. This is illustrated in the following table:

A, B, C represent the three Monsters in the enemy party

RL1, RL2 represent Rare Loot drops 1 and 2 of the given Monsters

Egg represents the chance of an Egg drop

No Weighting
A B C
1/3 1/3 1/3
RL1 1/9 1/9 1/9
RL2 1/9 1/9 1/9
Egg 1/9 1/9 1/9
Never got C
A B C
1/4 1/4 1/2
RL1 1/12 1/12 1/8
RL2 1/12 1/12 1/8
Egg 1/12 1/12 1/4
Never got B or C
A B C
1/5 2/5 2/5
RL1 1/15 1/10 1/10
RL2 1/15 1/10 1/10
Egg 1/15 1/5 1/5

And if you had never gotten the egg for any of the Monsters, it's a 1/6 chance for any specific one of the Monsters' Eggs and a 1/12 chance for any specific Rare Loot - 50-50 on getting Egg or Loot.

The only time that this system is upended is when you are after the Sun Palace and you encounter a Shifted Monster in a normal wild battle. Upon winning that fight, if you obtain a Rare drop (via star rating Rare Loot percentages), you will always obtain the Egg of that Shifted Monster with the specific Shift baked in.

Champion Monsters[]

Champions are slightly different, as well, as they have a specific Loot table, and you obtain 1 item per Star Rating you achieve upon defeating them. Stars 1 and 2 give you their two Common Loot drops, 3 and 4 give their two Rare Loot drops, and the fifth Star gives you the Champion Monster's Egg. You can check the full page linked here if you need tips and strategies for obtaining the 5-Star Rating required to acquire the Champions.
