The Alchemists are the primary antagonists of the game. The Hero and the Spectral Keepers must work together in order to stop them from whatever nefarious deeds they have planned.
History[]
The Alchemists have been around since the very first civilized society of humankind. They were the first to discover the principles of nature. They then learned to bend those principles to their will. They worked in the shadows, allowing empires to rise and fall as they saw fit. They also employ a volatile and unpredictable craft called Alchemy, which is similar to what many might call magic.
Around 200 AC, Alchemy was outlawed in the Old World, and its practitioners began to be persecuted in some places. Because of this, they fled to the Monster Sanctuary. They tried to convince the Monster Keepers to wage war on the Old World but the first Keeper Master rejected their offer. He said that the Sanctuary holds everything they could ever need. Marduk, the leader of the Alchemists, gathered some of the Keepers who agreed with his way of thinking and formed this new order of Alchemists.
They have perfected a potion that can create Champion Monsters and appear to have a vested interest in collecting the Spectral Familiars.

Main Article: Marduk
Marduk is the mysterious leader of the Alchemists. Rumors abound that he possesses the power of immortality, along with the ability to enter and leave the Abandoned Tower at will, despite its entrance being sealed by the four Spectral Familiars many years ago.
Ostanes[]
Also referred to as the Earth Alchemist, he is first encountered in the Blue Caves just before encountering the Minitaur champion.
Story[]
It is eventually revealed that he created that Champion with a powerful elixir, and he finds it impressive that you defeated the creature he created.
He is later fought upon entering the Goblin-related sections of the Ancient Woods on your way to face off against the Goblin King. He claims that the Monster Keepers are the jailors of the Monsters and that they can be used to create anarchy and chaos, as well. You are blind to this truth, so he challenges you to a battle so that you can learn the error of your ways.
Julia arrives right after your victory and takes off in pursuit of the enemy as he races off toward the Goblin stronghold.

Chymes[]
Chymes is a mysterious Alchemist who is encountered in the depths of the Stronghold Dungeon
Story[]
While talking with Vallalar in the Stronghold Dungeon Chymes shows up to see what's going on. While you handle the former, Chymes faces off against and defeats Will in a Keeper Duel. Upon victory, he claims Will's Familiar for himself. We later learn he was able to do this due to a potion created by Rhazes which allows the drinker to mimic the bloodline of the Spectral Keepers. Winning in a Keeper Duel allowed Chymes to take control of the Familiar, until such time as Will can defeat him again.
Zosimos[]
Also referred to as the Water Alchemist, he is found at the very top of the Sun Palace after emptying the water from the lower levels and raising the Sun Tower.

Rhazes[]
Also referred to as the Fire Alchemist, he is located within the Magma Chamber after completing the keystone.
Story[]
Rhazes shares with you the history of the Alchemists, letting you know that they have been around for millennia, studying their alchemy. He claims that the ideals of the Keepers' order are insignificant compared to what alchemy has achieved. He believes so strongly, that he will fight you, even though he believes there are better ways than violence to achieve goals. He claims that, even should you win, alchemy will still inevitably triumph.
After defeating him, he talks about how Marduk has been responsible for keeping the order together for the past few centuries. Rhazes confirms that he and some other young Keepers were recruited by him, likely when Marduk arrived in the Sanctuary. Some follow him for power, while Rhazes is just fascinated by alchemy in general. He believes in alchemy more than he believes in Marduk and the promise of power he offers. After the Familiar reminds him that, although the Alchemists were uninvited guests to the Sanctuary, the Keepers allowed them to stay. The Sanctuary is home to all who have no place in the Old World, even Alchemists.
Rhazes agrees that, perhaps, war can be averted. To that end, he decides to help you stop Marduk. He agrees to help in exchange for continuing to practice his alchemy. You agree, and Will arrives. Rhazes apologizes - it was his elixir that allowed Chymes to steal his Familiar. The elixir allowed Chymes to mask his bloodline and pretend to be a part of Will's. Victory in the Keeper Duel forced the Familiar's loyalty to switch. Will runs off with hope - by becoming stronger and defeating Chymes in combat, he could get his Familiar back.
We learn that the most important part of Marduk's plan involves collecting all four of the Spectral Familiars. He lets you know there's a Sanctuary Token down below.
