The Ancient Woods is a lush forest region in the eastern portion of the Monster Sanctuary. Long, winding tunnels, the result of Molebear excavation, comprise its lower half. It is home to a variety of woodland monsters, as well as key locations such as the Tree of Evolution, and the Goblin Fort.
The Ancient Woods connect to the Stronghold Dungeon in the west in three separate locations. There is also a connection to Horizon Beach in the east, and one to the Magma Chamber below.

Upon heading further into the Goblins' lair, Ostanes, the Alchemist from the Blue Caves stops you, reveals that he is responsible for the Minitaur's transformation into a Champion, and challenges you to a Keeper Duel.

Tree of Evolution[]
The Tree of Evolution was where the war between the first Keepers and the kings of the Old World ended. A powerful spell was cast under the tree to bring all the other areas of the Monster Sanctuary into being. The Ancient Woods is the only location that was once part of the Old World. Everything else was created by magic. The spell caused powerful earthshakes in the Old World.
The Tree of Evolution allows for the use of catalysts to evolve certain Monsters.

Puzzles[]
Light Door Puzzle[]
The Light Door puzzle is required to obtain the final Ancient Woods Key to get access to the Goblin Fort.
Start off by flipping the blue lever to get access to the red lever inside. Flip the red lever to get access to the first section of the puzzle.
Inside, the only lever accessible is a blue one. Flip it to get access to the red lever to the right. Once the red lever is flipped, flip the blue lever again to get access to the green lever above. Flip the green lever, then flip the blue again to get access to the red. Flip the red, then flip the blue. This should leave all three light doors to the left open.
Passing through the three open doors will start the next section of the puzzle. The goal of this area is to flip the yellow lever (currently behind the blue light door). If you haven't gotten the treasure chest in this area, flip the red lever in the top left corner to get it (make sure to flip the lever back to finish the puzzle).
Moving to the right, there should be only one other accessible lever. Flipping this lever should trap you in the next section. Flip the green lever in the new section to the right, which should open the green door blocking the red lever above you. Flip the red lever, flip the green lever again, then drop down to the bottom of the section and flip the blue lever. This should lock you back into the previous section, and open the blue door blocking the yellow lever.
Flip the yellow lever, then return (flipping the blue to move back to the previous section). On your way up, flip the green lever, then flip the red lever, so that you can exit the puzzle after moving through the top tunnel.
