Bravery is a game mode where players only have access to a limited selection of random Monsters for both battling and exploring, challenging the player's team-building skills. Bravery mode can only be played on a completely fresh file or New Game+. Once activated, this game mode cannot be deactivated. Bravery can be played alongside other game modes. By default, most of the game modes are unlocked once the player defeats the final boss. The player can also manually turn on the "Advanced Game Modes" option while in the main menu to access these game modes.

The set of available of Monsters the player gets (as well as their Shifts once unlocked) is determined at the beginning of a new Bravery game. The game generates the set of Monsters based on two factors: the game seed and whether Randomizer is active or not. The player can input a custom game seed manually when creating a new game in the main menu. There are 1000000 possible game seeds for each Bravery game mode ('Bravery only' and 'Bravery+Randomizer').

Monster Chests[]

Monster chests are white-colored chests exclusive to Bravery mode. There will always be one Monster chest in each area (excluding the Keepers' Stronghold, Keepers' Tower and Eternity's End), typically found near the entrance of the area. The location of these chests is fixed and not based on which entrance the player enters from (for areas with multiple entrances).

Monster chests always contain a random egg of a Monster found in that area, including evolved and Champion Monsters. Below is a list of Monsters you can get from each chest. If Randomizer is active, the Monsters are swapped accordingly. There are 13 Monster chests in total.

Changes[]

Below is a list of changes when Bravery is active:
  • You start off with three random Monsters, including a Spectral Familiar. You are not given a prompt to choose a Familiar. Which Familiar you get is predetermined by the game seed and whether Randomizer is active or not.
  • Monster eggs will not be dropped at the end of battles or from Reward Boxes. This includes five-starring Champion Monsters. Catalyst items can still be dropped.
  • Monster chests appear at each area containing an egg of a Monster found in that area. If Shifting is unlocked, the eggs have a chance to be shifted.
  • The Monster Army is unavailable. Instead, the Keeper there will give you additional eggs in exchange for a Shift Stone, Switch Stone and Skill Potion, up to seven times. If Shifting is unlocked, the eggs have a chance to be shifted.
  • You do not need six Monsters to fight Will in the Keepers' Tower.
  • The four elemental orbs in the Ancient Woods are removed.
  • The Monster Farm is unavailable.
  • Monster eggs given by NPCs are randomized.
    • The Caretaker gives a random Monster that has Swimming, Improved Swimming or Dual Mobility.
    • Lady Stasis will request for a random hatched Monster that the player is able to obtain in exchange for a random Monster egg. This process can only be done once and is not reversible.
    • Bex gives a random Monster egg.
    • Rhazes does not sell any eggs.
    • Each of the Spectral Familiars (excluding your starting Familiar) gives a random egg.
    • The egg given by the Wanderer is the only egg that is not randomized. He will always give the player a Bard egg.
  • In total, you are able to obtain up to 29 Monsters.
    • 3 starting Monsters.
    • 13 from Monster chests.
    • 6 from NPCs (not including the exchange with Lady Stasis).
    • 7 from the Monster Army Keeper.

Do note that all randomized Monster eggs (including their Shift) are all predetermined by the game seed and whether Randomizer is active or not. Random eggs given to the player can be any Monster egg, including Spectral Familiar eggs, but they can never be a Swimming Monster or Bard egg.

Monster Generation[]

When starting a new Bravery run, the game prioritizes generating Monster chests and your starting Monsters to meet these conditions:
You are also guaranteed at least one of each Monster with the following Explore Abilities either from Monster chests, the Monster Army Keeper or among your starting Monsters:
You are not always guaranteed a Monster with Explore Abilities that can handle the following obstacles:

New Game+[]

When playing New Game+ with Bravery active, no Monsters from the original file will be brought. This includes Monsters that are left in the Monster Farm as well as unhatched Monster eggs in your inventory. Therefore, it is recommended to play this mode on a separate save slot. Other items that normally carry over, such as Skill Resetters, Monster Bells and equipment are still kept. Any equipment on Monsters are returned to the inventory. Skill Potions, Shift Stones and Switch Stones carried over can be useful to obtain the Monsters from the Monster Army Keeper at an early stage.

Issues[]

  1. When paired with Randomizer, these seeds do not work properly and would crash the game:
