The Elemental Modifier stat is a special form of damage multiplier or reduction that determines whether a Monster is weak to or resists a damage type. A Monster is considered weak to a damage type if its Elemental Modifier for that damage type is above 100% and resistant if it is below 100%. However, the weak and resist icons only appear when the Elemental Modifier is above 120% or below 80%, respectively. Certain passives trigger whenever an attack exploits a Monster's weakness or it is resisted. There are eight different damage types: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Neutral, Physical, Magical, and Debuff.
The Elemental Modifier stat stacks additively but cannot drop below 10%. Each damage type starts with an Elemental Modifier of 100%, which can be adjusted by Elemental Weaknesses or Resistances. Elemental Weakness increases the Elemental Modifier by an additional 50%, whereas Elemental Resistance has an Elemental Modifier of -50%.
Elemental Break increases the Elemental Modifier for all Weaknesses and Resistances on opposing Monsters with Armor Break by an additional 10%, with additional stacks being half as effective. Additionally, each instance of Polluted Water increases the Elemental Modifier of Debuffs on enemies by 10% for every allied Aquatic Monster.
- Earth damage to enemy with Earth Weakness: 100% + 50% = 150% (boosted damage)
- Neutral damage to enemy with Neutral Resistance: 100% - 50% = 50% (resisted damage)
- Physical Water damage to enemy with Physical Weakness and Water Resistance: 100% + 50% - 50% = 100% (neutral damage)
- Magical Wind damage with Elemental Break to enemy with an Armor Break stack, Wind Weakness and Magical Resistance: 100% + 60% - 40% = 120% (boosted damage)
- Poison damage with Polluted Water and three Aquatics to enemy: 100% + 30% = 130% (boosted damage)
- Burn damage to enemy with Fire Resistance and Debuff Resistance: 100% - 50% - 50% = 0% (becomes 10% as it cannot go lower than that; resisted damage)

Elemental Resistances have an Elemental Modifier of -50% for the respective damage type. When not accounting for other sources of Elemental Modifier, a Monster with an Elemental Resistances takes 50% less damage from that damage type.
