Bio[]
Not to be confused by the ordinary (albeit equally beautiful) fish that goes by the same name, the Monster Kois aren't shackled by their namesakes' earthly boundaries. They can swim in any direction they choose, and in a way that seems completely effortless. It doesn't matter whether they're swimming upstream, diving into the darkest depths, or gliding through thin air - it all seems all the same to them. They are therefore seen as living symbols of pure freedom and the ability to choose your own destiny.
History[]
In the Old World, a large, monstrous Koi would sometimes be seen hovering and gliding above a river. It was always followed by a school of its ordinary namesake that would try to jump out of the water to get closer to the mythical Koi leader. According to legend, it would guide them to their destiny - or, in more practical terms, it guided them towards safer waters. Some of the Monster Kois decided to come to the Monster Sanctuary, but it is believed that most of them still fulfil their mission as guides in the Old World. Only a fool would attempt to hunt a Monster Koi or imprison it.
Acquisition[]
A Koi egg is given by the Caretaker upon finishing the story segments at the Sun Palace. Click here for more details!
Defeat Zosimos and the Caretaker will give you a Koi egg at the end of the story segment
Koi is first seen in the Sun Palace, owned by the Caretaker. After raising the tower for the third time, it is kidnapped by Zosimos, who turns it into its dark Shift and uses it to battle against you. Once you defeat the Alchemist, he releases the Koi from his bidding and leaves. The Caretaker arrives and feels relieved that his Koi is safe but immediately becomes worried the unbalance of the Sun will cause great calamity to the Sanctuary. To restore the Sun, his Koi sacrifices itself, causing shifted Monsters to appear in the wild. Soon after, two Koi eggs fall from the Sun, and the Caretaker gives you one of the eggs.
It can also be normally encountered in the Horizon Beach. Click here for its location details!
