Manticorb was the winning entry of the 3rd Design Contest, designed by 'RacieB'.

Bio[]

Lacking appreciable teeth or claws with which to fight, the Manticorb defends itself entirely by magical means. Its thick, fluffy coat serves to absorb large amounts of errant Mana from the surrounding atmosphere, which it can cast at will from the tip of its tail, much like a wand. It carries so much magical energy inside its small body that its large eye even emits light in dark places. A skilled Manticorb can become quite adept in wielding multiple attack elements, and predators are quick to learn that the warning stripes are no joke.

History[]

Manticorbs have a natural tendency to gather where Mana is strongly concentrated, and as a result ended up flocking to the Monster Sanctuary of their own volition. Their curious demeanor and soft fur makes them attractive pets at a glance, but they can quickly become unruly and volatile if they are allowed to build up too much Mana at a time. Experienced Keepers can monitor a Manticorb's level of charge by the amount of static in its fur, and will have it regularly cast spells to discharge the excess.

It is first seen watching the player on top of a cliff. This cliff can be reached with Double Jump Boots and either a Flying or a Monster that can create an object to stand on. The Manticorb spawn can be found in the next room.

Multi Sorcery Aura: Sorcery (Buff) can be stacked two additional times. Additional stacks are only half as strong.
Exploit Party Aura: Whenever a Monster in the party exploits an enemy's weakness with an attack, it gains a random Buff and shields by 5% of its Max Health.
Magic Barrier Aura: All Mage Monsters in the party start the combat with a shield equal to 150% of their Max Mana and receive 1% less damage for every 100 Max Mana.

Trivia[]

  • Manticorb is one of the two Monsters that was designed by 'RacieB', the other being Stolby.
  • Based on a feedback survey back in May 2021, Manticorb was one of the Top 5 community's favorite Monster, it being in the second place. (Top 20 results here)
  • Manticorb's design is based on the manticore, a Persian legendary creature with the head of a human, the body of a lion, and a tail of venomous spines similar to porcupine quills, while other depictions have it with the tail of a scorpion.
    • Its design was also inspired by the creator's pet cat.
      • The creator (RacieB) also designed Bittybolt in Coromon, which was also inspired by her cat.
  • Manticorb's name is a portmanteau of the words manticore and orb.
