While in the Abandoned Tower, the man they thought was Eric reveals himself to be Marduk, having ambushed and murdered the real Eric in the Magma Chamber 23 years ago, and disposed his body there. Using an ancient, forbidden alchemical method, Marduk has taken on Eric's appearance and voice ever since. He used this same method to hide his true identity for the last three hundred years.
