Bio[]
Ornithopters are mechanical beings capable of perpetual flight. They are kept in motion through mysterious mechanisms that are hidden within the barrel-shaped body. Being one of the most puzzling inventions in history, they have inspired many attempts to copy their design or improve on it, which have all failed so far.
History[]
Ornithopters were created by Leonardo the Great, one of the most brilliant minds in history. They were created centuries before the Sanctuary and are the first mechanical Monsters created by humans in history. The Ornithopters' design was based on acute, long-lived observations of animals and Monsters capable of flight. The final element needed to keep the Ornithopter in motion, however, eluded Leonardo for many years. The Ornithopters' design was only completed when Leonardo began to dabble in sorcery in his later years, which only became known years after his death. Trying to keep the magical mechanisms of the Ornithopters secret from the puritan authorities, Leonardo placed a magical seal on them; if the seal is broken in any way, the mechanisms within the Ornithopter completely fall apart.

- Ornithopter's name and design are based on the ornithopter, an aircraft that flies by flapping its wings.
- Ornithopter was also inspired by the Ornithopter card from Magic: The Gathering.
- Leonardo the Great from Ornithopter's History is a reference to Leonardo da Vinci, the person that made the first real studies of flight and invented the ornithopter.
