Randomizer is a game mode where all Monsters are randomly swapped around. Randomizer mode can only be played on a completely fresh file or New Game+. Once activated, this game mode cannot be deactivated. Randomizer can be played alongside other game modes. By default, most of the game modes are unlocked once the player defeats the final boss. The player can also manually turn on the "Advanced Game Modes" option while in the main menu to access these game modes.
The game determines which Monsters swap with which at the beginning of a new Randomizer game based on the game seed used. The player can input a custom game seed manually when creating a new game in the main menu. There are 1000000 possible game seeds.
Changes[]
Below is a list of changes when Randomizer is active:
- All Monsters are randomly swapped around, e.g. all Vaero encounters are swapped with Frosty. This also includes Monster eggs given to the player and obtained from Reward Boxes. Depending on the game seed, there is a chance that a Monster doesn't get swapped.
- Most Monsters that appear in the background or cutscenes are also affected.
- The only Monsters that are not swapped are the Spectral Familiars, Bard and Dark-shifted Catzerker Champion.
- Monsters that do not normally appear in the wild (excluding Bard) can drop rare loot. These Monsters are Ninki, Sizzle Knight, Skorch, Shockhopper and Plague Egg.
- Monster eggs given by NPCs swap out the original Monster accordingly. If Bravery is active, see the change list in Bravery instead.
- The Caretaker gives a random Monster that has Swimming, Improved Swimming or Dual Mobility (swaps out Koi).
- Bex gives the egg of the Monster that is following him (swaps out Skorch).
- Lady Stasis requests for a random Monster egg (swaps out Dodo) to create another random Monster egg (swaps out Shockhopper).
- Rhazes sells a random Monster egg (swaps out Plague Egg) and can be bought for an infinite amount.
- The eggs given by the Spectral Familiars and Wanderer are the only eggs that are not randomized. They will always give the player Spectral Familiar and Bard eggs, respectively.
- After reaching Keeper Master, the Consumable Merchant sells two eggs that swapped with Ninki and Sizzle Knight (unless Bravery is active), which can be bought for an infinite amount.
- Monsters in Keeper Duels are also swapped out with the corresponding swapped Monster but only if the swapped Monster has a Keeper Duel loadout. Monsters with no Keeper Duel loadouts include Goblin King, Ninki, Tanuki, Ucan, Mimic, Goblin Pilot, Mad Lord, Krakaturtle and Dracomer.
- The four elemental orbs in the Ancient Woods are removed.
Monster Generation[]
When starting a new Randomizer run, the game ensures these conditions:
- At least one Monster that can destroy walls can be encountered in the Mountain Path or Blue Caves.
- At least one Mount variant can be encountered in the Mountain Path, Blue Caves, Stronghold Dungeon, Ancient Woods, Snowy Peaks or Sun Palace.
- At least one Monster with Flying or another Mount variant can be encountered in the Mountain Path, Blue Caves, Stronghold Dungeon or Ancient Woods.
- At least one Monster with Improved Flying or Lofty Mount can be encountered in the Stronghold Dungeon, Ancient Woods, Sun Palace, Snowy Peaks, Horizon Beach or Magma Chamber.
- Monsters with Improved Flying or Lofty Mount cannot be encountered in the Mountain Path and Blue Caves.
- Monsters with Swimming, Improved Swimming or Dual Mobility cannot be encountered in the Mountain Path, Blue Caves, Stronghold Dungeon, Ancient Woods, Snowy Peaks, Sun Palace, Magma Chamber and Mystical Workshop.
- The "Tanuki" encounter cannot be a Monster with Improved Flying, Lofty Mount, Swimming, Improved Swimming or Dual Mobility.
- The "Dodo" encounter cannot be an evolved Monster.
Issues[]
- Since Dracozul, Draconoir, King Blob, Mad Lord, Ascendant and Dracomer are Champion Monsters and their eggs cannot be obtained naturally, Monsters that swapped with these Monsters can only be obtained once per playthrough. For example, if Frosty replaces Mad Lord, the only time you can get a Frosty egg is when you 5-star it. You cannot obtain another one as there are no Reward Boxes that drop Mad Lord eggs, only its catalyst.
- If Koi is swapped by either Krakaturtle or Dracomer, the Koi used in Zosimos' battle will not be replaced as Krakaturtle and Dracomer do not appear in Keeper Duels. This could potentially cause a softlock when playing New Game+ since the player will receive a Krakaturtle/Dracomer egg but has not encountered a Monster with Improved Swimming or Dual Mobility, thus preventing them from using their Explore Abilities.
- There is a bug exploit available to circumvent this issue.
- It is still possible to find a Swimming Monster in Blob Burg. However, this requires unlocking all the Blob Locks first, and there is no guarantee of finding a Swimming Monster there.
- If the player receives a Dracomer egg, an alternative solution is to initiate a Keeper Duel that has a Monster with Improved Swimming (Thornish, Nautilid, Elderjel). The player only needs to engage a battle, not win it, to unlock access to the ability. This approach does not work if the player receives a Krakaturtle egg, as there are no other Monsters with Dual Mobility. The best place for this is at the Legendary Keepers area in the Magma Chamber. However, the player must have a Monster with Levitate and defeat the Gryphonix Champion replacement beforehand.
- When paired with Bravery, these seeds do not work properly and would crash the game:
32410, 62855, 70117, 202132, 220128, 348830, 385353, 386539, 401210, 412856, 494943, 535203, 559542, 564056, 568963, 599426, 603066, 610891, 770002, 806045, 854610, 863076, 866820, 973451
